This was my Christmas present for 2014 and I also bought one for my brother and sister too for their presents.

I had been watching the Misfit Flash and Misfit Shine for quite a while, I first saw the shine at the UK Gadget show last year and it struck me as a very stylish and wearable addition to the activity tracking market. So when the Misfit Flash was announced at a cheaper price for pretty much the same functionality but only slightly less stylish, I added it to my wishlist.

What tipped the ‘buying’ scales for me was…
the Black Friday sale when they were half price, so in the end I paid only £25 each for them and for that price they really are fantastically good value.

I’ve been wearing mine on my wrist constantly for two days now including during showers to test its waterproofness. I’ve set my goal low to start with to see roughly how I do over the relatively sedate Christmas period. So far, I’ve reached my activity goals each day relatively easily. Generally, two walks a day each less than a mile is enough to reach the 600 points goal.

Wrist or Shirt?
My sister has worn hers today on her shirt and her score has been very low compared to mine on the wrist, even though we’ve been doing about the same level of activity. What we didn’t realise was that if you wear it anywhere other than your wrist you need to change the setting in the app.

I can see that the social aspect of the misfit app will be great especially now that my siblings have the same device. We’re all quite competitive so it will be interesting to see how this impacts my general activity level. Yesterday my brother got the highest score so I went out for a run first thing this morning to get a head start.

I’ve only had two nights to test the sleep mode, but it did correctly detect the sleeping times. The first night it reported that I was in bed for 7 hours and 45 minutes and that I only managed 2 hours of restful sleep. I know I didn’t sleep very well that night. Last night it registered 8 hours of sleep with 3.5 hours of restful sleep and I did feel like I had a better nights sleep last night.

My only minor complaint is that initially, I found the Flash to pop out of the strap when pressed to display my progress/time however this seems to occur less now after only a few days, perhaps I originally hadn’t pushed it into the strap properly. The clasp for the Flash is not magnetic like the Shine.

In summary, I’m very pleased with the Flash. I would still be happy if I’d paid full price for it and I’m glad that I didn’t go for the Shine at a higher price still because the Flash gives me everything I want. Also, the app is the same for both devices and works very well on my iPhone 4S, my sister’s iPhone 5S and my brother’s Android phone.
